Wasserstadt Limmer BF 12
Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany
EN
The public green entrance square is located in the newly created residential area of “Wasserstadt” in the Limmer district of Hanover. The 7- and 4-story building complexes on construction site 12, the entrée square of the new residential quarter, contain single apartments, retail, assisted living and inpatient care. The urban square is intended to serve as a cross-generational, communicative place and as the center of the district.
The differently designed islands contain planting areas with trees and perennials, a fountain field, a rainwater retention basin, an outdoor terrace for restaurants and bakers as well as a supermarket promotional area.
The fountain field as the center of the square contributes to the improvement of the microclimate and provides cooling on hot days. The shaded seating area on Botanical Island provides a place for people to communicate and interact. The different user groups of the new urban district are diverse, which implies that usage pressure is expected on this inner-city square.
